FAQs

SOMATA is a private, member-based, health association- also known as a “PHA.” We are motivated by our desire to provide safe, effective, and transformative care for each of our members. In order to book services, you must be a member of SOMATA. To become a member, scroll down further to find out more information!

All initial appointments are 3 hours, follow up appointments are 2 hours.

Why a Private Health Association?

Great question. A PHA is built around the “Membership Model” of Care. All individuals who come to see Kristina are part of the bigger vision of SOMATA. The Membership Model of Care allows SOMATA and its members to work together in the private healing arena. Sessions and therapies can be personalized and built around each individual’s needs instead of being built around stagnant protocols. A PHA also allows SOMATA to operate as a 508(c)1a. This means, we can delegate a percentage of the membership fee to women who are in need of accessible and good quality PhysioPelvic restoration but cannot financially contribute to SOMATA at this time in their lives.

Can you describe what you do?

I’ve combined methods from several disciplines including prenatal and postpartum care, traditional and modern rebozo practices, fascial release, biomechanics, body balancing, and pelvis mobility therapies. This method increases overall body motion and mechanics and decreases your pain.

Is your method safe for the female pregnant body?

Yes, all of the training and courses that have inspired this method are specifically designed to care for the female pregnant and postpartum  body. Safety for you and your growing baby are my top priority.

Do I need to come weekly or is one visit enough?

Typically 1-2 visits are plenty. There have been some cases where additional sessions are needed, but that is not always the case. An example of needing more than one session would be if your baby is breech or you have been in chronic pain or misalignment. After our first session, and I have had the chance to assess you, I am able to give you exercises to do at home, which is usually all that you need.

What is- Closing Of The Bones?

After laboring and delivering your baby, your pelvis is open. Typically one of your hips (or both) are still splayed out or misaligned. Closing of the bones neutralizes your pelvic girdle often resulting in a  more grounded, centered and balanced feeling. This technique is safe for the pregnant body. Pregnant women (even after their first pregnancy) benefit from this therapy.

Why is this type of bodywork important?

The pregnant and postpartum body does not have to “live with pain.” Pregnant people are often told that pain is part of carrying a baby and postpartum just comes with pain and discomfort. This is not true. Although the aging and weathering process does take a toll on our overall physicality, women do not have to live in or with chronic pain. After one session, many clients have reported feeling like “they got their lives back” or that “they are finally healing from their labor and delivery.” The bodywork that I do enhances other healing modalities and is key to restoring your pelvic girdle.

Will your therapy slow down my labor?

No.

Do you offer packages?

We can discuss on an individual basis.

How does this therapy help for VBAC/TOLAC preparations?

This therapy helps in VBAC/TOLAC situations by creating whole body balance, pelvic alignment, and abdominal equilibrium. Positioning work is also vital for most TOLAC clients. If needed, I can do cesarean scar therapy. I recommend addressing TOLAC preparation at 32 weeks. I follow strict evidence based guidelines when working with VBAC clients.

Do you perform the External Cephalic Version?

No. Only licensed Midwives or Medical Doctors are able to perform ECV’s. I do not offer therapies that are out of my scope.

What is your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the practitioners' day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, we request 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee of $100 to the card on file.
